Football: #1 Mount Union Wins Record 111th Straight Regular Season Game at Otterbein

Box Score

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – No. 1 ranked Mount Union bested its own NCAA record winning its 111th consecutive regular season game with a 66-7 win at Otterbein in an Ohio Athletic Conference game Saturday at Memorial Stadium.

The Purple Raiders (8-0, 7-0 OAC) are 221-1 in their last 222 games dating back to 1994 as they won 110 games from 1994-2005 then after a loss ran off its current 111-game streak.

Freshman quarterback Dom Davis (Akron/St. Vincent-St. Mary) made his third start, threw for three scores and ran for another as he completed 16-of-19 passes for 208 yards.

Davis hit eight different receivers with three scoring touchdowns led by senior Tim Kennedy (Hudson/Hudson), who had five catches for 61 yards and a score.

Senior running back Dwayne Aaron (Cleveland/Lakewood St. Edward) rushed for a game-high 75 yards on six carries as Mount Union rushed for 319 yards.

Senior linebacker Charlie Dear (Massillon/Massillon Jackson) had five tackles, a sack, tackle for loss and a 92-yard return of a blocked field goal for a touchdown to lead a defense that held Otterbein (4-4, 4-3 OAC) quarterback Logan Stepp to 143 yards of total offense.

Stepp, who entered the game leading the conference in total offense at 304.5 yards per game, completed 10-of-16 passes for 122 yards with a touchdown and ran for 21 yards on 14 carries.

After a three and out by Otterbein to start the game, Kennedy returned the punt to the Cardinals 21-yard line and six plays later Davis ran it in from seven yards out to put the Raiders on the board.

Otterbein then drove down to the Mount Union 10-yard line and attempted a 27-yard field goal that was blocked by Austin White (Wadsworth/Wadsworth) and returned 92 yards by Dear to make it 14-0.

The Cardinals got on the board before the end of the quarter on an 84-yard drive where Stepp hit Hunter Joseph on a 14-yard touchdown yard pass and it was 14-7 after the first quarter.

The Mount Union defense got going as it held Otterbein to 27 total yards in the second quarter while the Raider offense scored four touchdowns.

Bradley Mitchell (Detroit, Mich./South Lake) had a four-yard touchdown run, Davis threw a 27-yard TD pass to Demarco Haynes (Miramar, Fla./Chaminade-Madonna), Jawanza Evans-Morris (Coral Springs, Fla./Taravella) had a 38-yard scoring run and Davis threw a 35-yard TD pass to Kennedy to give the Raiders a 42-7 lead at the break.

Davis tossed his third touchdown pass of the game in the opening drive of the second half -- a four-yard pass to Zach Herrington (Wintersville/Indian Creek) that took the score to 49-7.

Evans-Morris ran in his second score of the day from six yards out and Eliott Nero (Hookstown, Pa./Weirton Madonna, W.Va.) ran in a seven-yard score and Mount Union was up 63-7 after three quarters.

Alex Louthan (Loganville, Ga./Grayson) finished the scoring in the fourth quarter with a 20-yard field goal.

Mount Union plays its final regular season road game next Saturday, Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. at Muskingum in New Concord.
