Baseball: Mount Union Sweeps Roger Williams; Raiders Even Record at 4-4

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- Mount Union's baseball team scored 8-7 and 7-1 wins over Roger Williams (R.I.) Friday at Chain O'Lakes Stadium in Winter Haven, Florida.

The Purple Raiders have now four of their last five games to even their record at 4-4 on the season.

In game one, Mount Union rallied from a two-run deficit in the sixth innning then pulled out an 8-7 win in the bottom of the seventh.

Down 6-4 in the sixth, Scott Sherwood (Mentor/Mentor) drove in a run and James Weber (Auburn, Ind./Garrett) had the go ahead hit with a two-run double that put the Raiders up 7-6.

Roger Williams tied the game in the top of the seventh and the Raiders came back and loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning and Mitchell Lake (Orwell/Grand Valley) drove in the game-winner.

Phil Mary (New Kensington, Pa./Plum) came out and work the seventh to pick up his second win of the season.

Roger Williams jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning but Mount Union got one of those runs back in the bottom of the frame off a RBI hit from Billy Goodall (Canfield/South Range).

The Raiders scored a run on a passed ball in the second to tie the game.

Roger Williams went back out in front on a three-run home run in the third and Mount Union again responded pushing one across on an error in the third to make the score 5-3.

Roger Williams got another run in the fourth and the Raiders also got a run in the inning off a sacrifice fly by Adam Bialosky (Hinkley/Medina Highland) which left the score 6-4.

In game two, Sam Clarke (Strongsville/Strongsville) picked up his first win on the mound as he scattered five hits over six innings, giving up just one run and striking out two.

At the plate, Sherwood and Nick Piotrowski (Macedonia/Nordonia) each drove in three runs on two hits.

The Raiders are back in action Saturday against Marymount (Va.) in Florida.
