Box Score 2 ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union's baseball swept Ohio Northern in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader winning 6-1 and 15-7 Thursday at 23rd Street Field in Alliance.
The Purple Raiders, now winners of three straight OAC games, are 12-13 overall and 3-5 in the OAC while Ohio Northern falls to 13-11 overall and 4-4 in the OAC.
In game one, three Mount Union pitchers -- Noah Skladan (Amherst/Steele), Mitch McCristall (Ontario/Ontario) and Scott Chase (Cleveland/St. Ignatius) -- combined to hold Ohio Northern to a run on three hits.
Skladan started and his best outing of the season so far allowing a run on three hits and striking out four over 7.0 innings to pick up his first win of the season. McCristall and Chase each worked an inning of no-hit relief in the win.
At the plate, Scott Sherwood (Mentor/Mentor) went 3-of-4 while Jimmy Scott (Holland/Toledo St. John's) and Nick Satovich (New Kensington, Pa./Plum) each drove in two runs.
Mount Union scored three runs in the first inning as Scott provided the big hit with a two-run single.
The Raiders added one in the third before Northern got on the board in the fifth then Mount Union got single runs in the sixth and eighth for the 6-1 final.
In game two, Mount Union belted out 17 hits to plate 15 runs in a 15-7 win.
Sherwood went 5-for-5 and with four RBI as he finished the day 8-of-9 hitting.
Billy Goodall (Canfield/South Range) drove in five runs on two hits while Scott and Angelo Cruz (Elyria/Elyria Catholic) each had three hits for the Raiders.
Beau Taylor (Alliance/West Branch) improved to 3-1 on the mound this season as he surrendered three earned runs and struck out four over the first 5.0 innings.
Mount Union trailed 3-2 in the fourth but erupted for six runs in the inning as Sherwood, Goodall and Mitchell Lake (Orwell/Grand Valley) each had two-run singles.
Northern would rally with two in the fifth to close the gap to 8-5 but the Raiders scored five in the fifth and two in the sixth to take a commanding 15-5 lead.
Ohio Northern added two in the ninth for the 15-7 final.
Mount Union next travels to Capital for an OAC series Saturday, Apr. 16 at 1 p.m. in Columbus.
