Baseball: Mount Union Beat By Long Ball at Otterbein

WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- Mount Union's baseball team got beat by the long ball in pair of games at Otterbein falling 11-10 and 10-7 in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday in Westerville.

The Purple Raiders now stand at 16-16 overall and 6-8 in the OAC with four conference games left while Otterbein is 24-7 overall and 10-4 in the OAC.

In the opener, Otterbein rallied with a run in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game at 10-10 then Tyler Kent led off bottom of the ninth with a walk-off home run to left field.

It was Kent's second home run of the game as he hit one in the first inning that gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.

Nick Piotrowski (Macedonia/Nordonia) tied the game with an RBI single in the second but Otterbein took the lead right back with two runs in the bottom of the inning to lead 3-1.

Piotrowski was at again in the third inning as his two-out, two-run single up the middle capped a three run inning and put the Raiders back up 4-3 but Otterbein came back again in the bottom half of the inning as Kent had an RBI double that started a three-run inning and put the Cardinals back up 6-4.

Mount Union again answered in the fourth, with the bases loaded and two outs, Adam Bialosky (Medina/Highland) cleared the bases with a double then came home on a Nick Satovich (New Kensington, Pa./Plum) as the Raiders led 8-6.

The Raiders got a run on an error in the fifth and James Weber (Auburn, Ind./Garrett) drove in a run in the seventh that extended the lead to 10-6.

Otterbein then scored three runs in the seventh as two hitter batters and a walk all came around to score and tied it in the eighth on two-out RBI single from Taylor Hutchison.

Bialosky finished with four hits while Weber and Piotrowski each had three as the Raiders had 18 hits in the loss.

Otterbein also got a big home run in game two as Mount Union led 4-3 heading into the bottom of the fourth until a grand slam from Jake Simmerman highlighted a five-run inning that gave the Cardinals a commanding 8-4 lead.

Otterbein scored one more in the fifth to lead 9-4 before the Raiders rallied with a three-run eighth as Weber drove in a run and Jimmy Scott (Holland/Toledo St. John's) hit a two-run home run that got Mount Union within two, 9-7.

Otterbein scored an insurance run in the eighth and held on for the 10-7 win.

Mount Union hosts Allegheny (Pa.) in a single nine-inning non-conference game Monday at 4 p.m. at 23rd Street Field in Alliance.
