ALLIANCE, Ohio-The Mount Union women's tennis team advances to 2-0 on the fall season after handing Washington and Jefferson (Pa.) their second loss in an 8-1 win on Friday afternoon at Mount Union's Whitehill Tennis Courts. 

The Purple Raiders swept doubles play against Washington and Jefferson (4-2), earning the team three points. 

In singles play, sophomore Gretchen Groves (Louisville/Louisville) defeated W&J's Rachel Johnson in the first position. Mount Union senior Anna Nelson (Aurora/Aurora) defeated Megan Berard in position five; she also defeated Berard and Brianna Morrison in doubles play with the help of sophomore Ashley Gran (Ashtabula/Lakeside). Freshman Sierra Beighey (Fombell, Pa./Riverside) secured the team's fifth win in position six singles play. 

The Purple Raiders next play on Friday, Sept. 30 at 3:30 p.m. against Westminster College (Pa.) in New Wilmington, Pa.
