Football: #2 Mount Union Scores Season-High in 72-14 Win Over Capital

ALLIANCE, Ohio – D'Angelo Fulford threw six touchdowns in the first half as No. 2 ranked Mount Union beat Capital 72-14 in an Ohio Athletic Conference game Saturday at Mount Union Stadium.

Fulford was 13-of-17 for 263 yards and his six touchdowns was the most by a Mount Union (6-0, 5-0 OAC) quarterback since Kevin Burke threw seven in a playoff game against Wesley in 2014.

Three of his touchdown passes went to senior Jared Ruth (Indianapolis, Ind. / Pike), one to junior Luke Herrington (Wintersville / Steubenville) and two to Braeden Friss (Avon / Avon), who also had a game-high 126 yards receiving on five catches.

Jawanza Evans-Morris (Coral Springs, Fla. / Taravella) had 102 yards rushing and two scores in first half as the Raiders had 437 offense and led 56-14 at the break.

Linebackers Charlie Dear (Massillon / Jackson) and Danny Robinson (Massillon / Washington) each had five stops while Trevor Cox (Hilliard / Darby) had an interception – the Raiders 10th of the season.

Capital (1-5, 1-4 OAC) got 204 yards passing from Thomas Wibbeler as Dartavious Stanford had seven catches for 105 yards and a score.

Richard Morris set-up the Raiders with a 40-yard kickoff return on the game's opening drive, three plays later Fulford hit Braeden Friss on a 57-yard touchdown pass to make it 7-0.

Capital came right back and tied on three play drive as the Crusaders went 75 yards and Wibbeler hit Nateshawn Hargrove on a 10-yard touchdown pass to tie the game at 7-7.

Mount Union need five plays to get back in the end-zone on the ensuing drive as Fulford hit Luke Herrington on back-to-back passes the second of those covered 13 years for a score and it was 14-7.

The Raiders forced a three-and-out from Capital, got the ball back and found the end zone in just two plays as Fulford hit Jared Ruth on a 28-yard strike and pushed the lead to 21-7.

Wibbeler led the Crusaders back down the field and this time hit Dar Stanford on a 14-yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to 21-14.

It took Mount Union seven plays to go back up two scores, 28-14, as Evans-Morris ran in a score from 14 yards out.

Evans-Morris found the end zone again two minutes into the second quarter as his 20-yard scoring run moved the score to 35-14.

Trevor Cox interception set up the next drive and Fulford tossed his fourth TD pass of the game – a 25-yarder to Ruth and it was 42-14.

Later in the quarter Fulford threw his fifth and sixth TD passes of the game – a five-yard strike to Ruth and a 12-yarder to Friss and it was 56-14 at the half.

The second half scoring included three Alex Louthan (Loganville, Ga. / Grayson) field goals from 44, 37 and 17 yards while backup quarterback Luke Poorman (Orlando, Fla. / University School) threw a touchdown pass to Cole Moxie (Miramar, Fla. / Cyprus Bay) that took it to 66-14.

Mount Union goes back on the road next week playing at OAC game at Wilmington College next Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Wilmington, Ohio.
