Box Score 2 WILMINGTON, Ohio – Mount Union extended its baseball win streak to six games with 7-0 and 4-2 wins at Westminster Tuesday in New Wilmington, Pa.
Once again for the Purple Raiders it was solid starting pitching and clutch hitting that moved their record to 11-3 on the season.
In the opener, Mount Union starting pitcher Mitch McCristall (Mansfield/Ontario) and Beau Taylor (Alliance/West Branch) combined to shut out Westminster (3-8) on just three hits.
McCristall went the first six innings and allowed the three hits with just one walk in moving to 3-0 on the season.
Joey Keleman (North Olmsted/North Olmsted) pushed a run across in the first on a ground out, Nick Piotrowski (Macedonia/Nordonia) had a two-out RBI single in the second and Nate Owen (Cranberry Twp., Pa. / Seneca Valley) had a sacrifice fly RBI in the fourth to get the Raiders out to a 3-0 lead.
Billy Goodall (Canfield/South Range) then hit his first home run of the season in the seventh with a grand slam for the 7-0 final.
Mount Union got off to an early lead in game two with an unearned run in the first and an RBI single from Piotrowski in the second to lead 2-0.
Westminster tied the game with two in the sixth but the Raiders came back with two in seventh off singles from Keleman and Colin Scott (Richmond/Edison) to go up 4-2.
Nick Satovich (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) went 5.2 innings and allowed two runs while striking out six, Mike Martin (Independence/Independence) got the final out in the sixth for his first win (1-1) and Darren Krowlikowski (Independence/Independence) closed out the seventh for his first save of the season.
Owen went 4-for-4 in game two and had six hits on the day.
Mount Union heads to Marietta for an Ohio Athletic Conference series Saturday, Mar. 25 at 1 p.m.
