Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MARIETTA, Ohio -- Mount Union's baseball team earned a split at Marietta -- winning game one 8-3 and losing game two 8-2 -- to maintain its lead in first place in the Ohio Athletic Conference standings Saturday at Don Schaly Stadium.

The Purple Raiders also saw its win streak end at seven games but stand at 12-4 overall and 3-1 in the OAC while Marietta is 6-7 overall and 1-1 in the OAC.

Mount Union win in the opener came from another strong pitching performance from sophomore Phil Mary (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) as he allowed just a run on three hits over seven innings to move his record to 4-0 on the season.

The Raiders pushed a run across in the first inning off one of four Marietta fielding errors to take a 1-0 lead.

Mount Union added three more runs in the third off RBI singles from Jimmy Scott (Holland/Toledo St. John's) and Kyle Spellman (Ravenna/Ravenna) along with a fielders choice RBI from Joey Keleman (North Olmsted/North Olmsted) to take a 4-0 lead.

Two more runs came across in the fifth as Conner Koski (Mayfield/Mayfield) was hit by a pitch with bases loaded and Nate Owen (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) had a fielders choice RBI to extend the Mount Union lead to 6-0.

The Raiders made it 8-0 with two more in the sixth on run scoring singles from Keleman and Travis Wood (Hudson/Hudson).

Marietta got a run in the sixth and two in the ninth for the 8-3 final.

In game two, the Pioneers broke a scoreless game open with two runs in the fourth but Mount Union tied the game in the sixth on a double from Keleman and a ground out from Spellman.

Marietta then scored six unanswered runs with two runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings for the 8-2 final.

Nick Piotrowski (Macedonia/Nordonia) and Billy Goodall (Canfield/South Range) each had three hits in the loss.

Mount Union is scheduled to host Ohio Wesleyan in its home opener Sunday, March 26 at 1 p.m. at 23rd Street Field.
