Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's baseball team, ranked No. 30 in the nation, swept John Carroll 5-4 and 12-5 in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader Wednesday at 23 rd Street Field in Alliance.

The Purple Raiders have now won seven of their last eight games to stand at 20-5 overall and remain in first place in the OAC with a 9-1 record.

In the opener, Mount Union rallied with four runs in the final three innings including a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth to earn a 5-4 win.

Both runs in the ninth were scored on pinch hits as Charlie Lewis (Strongsville/Strongsville) had a single that brought home Nate Owen (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) with the tying run then Lewis came home on a walk-off triple from Christian Stanziano (Oberlin/Elyria Catholic).

Beau Taylor (Alliance/West Branch) got the win out of the bullpen for the Raiders as he struck out seven and allowed just one hit over the final 3.0 innings. At the plate, Nick Piotrowski (Macedonia/Nordonia) drove in a run on two hits and Jimmy Scott (Holland/Toledo St. John's) had a pair of hits.

Mount Union had to rally twice in game two but an eight-run sixth inning blew the game open as the Raiders went on to a 12-5 win.

Billy Goodall (Canfield/South Range) went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs to lead an offense that featured seven different players getting hits, five driving in at least one run and 13 hits.

Once again, the Mount Union bullpen came on for the win with Mike Martin (Independence/Independence), who picked up his second win of the season and Darren Krolikowski (Independence/Independence) combined to not allow a run over the final 3.2 innings.

John Carroll (10-15, 3-5 OAC) plated a pair of runs in the first for a 2-0 lead.

Mount Union came back and took the lead with a four-run fifth inning with the big hit a two-run single from Goodall.

The Blue Streaks came right back with three in the top of the sixth but the Raiders scored eight in the bottom of the inning to take control with a 12-5 lead.

Mount Union stays home to host Capital in an OAC series Friday, April 14 at 1 p.m. at 23rd Street Field.
