Box Score 2 ALLIANCE, Ohio – The No. 23 ranked Mount Union baseball team split a pair of games with Otterbein Saturday at 23rd Street Field in Alliance.
Mount Union rallied to win the first game 5-4 with its seventh last at-bat win of the season then dropped game two 6-2.
The Raiders are now 25-7 overall and at 14-2 in the OAC while Otterbein is 23-9 overall and 9-5 in the OAC.
In game one, Otterbein (23-9, 9-5 OAC) took a 2-0 lead in the third inning on a two-out, two-run single from Connor Brett.
Angelo Cruz (Lorain/Elyria Catholic), Nick Piotrowski (Macedonia/Nordonia) and Billy Goodall (Canfield/South Range) had three straight singles in the fifth and all came around to score. Goodall was the go-ahead run and came home on a sacrifice fly from Joey Keleman (North Olmsted/North Olmsted).
The Cardinals came right back and retook the lead in the sixth as back-to-back doubles from Brett and Brock Frentzel brought a run home to tie the game then Frentzel later scored on a Tim Snyder sacrifice fly to make it 4-3.
The Raiders then rallied in the bottom of the eighth as Goodall led off the inning with a bunt single then after two strikeouts Jimmy Scott (Holland/Toledo St. John's) tied the game with an RBI single. Scott then stole second and scored the game-winner on an RBI single from Nick Satovich (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum).
Satovich finished with two hits while Goodall had three hits to lead the Raiders at the plate.
Phil Mary (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his first save of the season in relief of Mitch McCristall (Mansfield/Ontario), who battled for 8.0 innings to get the win.
In game two, three Otterbein pitchers combined to hold the Mount Union lineup to just seven hits in a 6-2 loss.
Conner Koski (Mayfield Hts/Mayfield) had a pair of hits as the only Raider with multiple hits in the game.
Mount Union next plays a non-conference game at Allegheny Wednesday, April 26 at 4 p.m. in Meadville, Pa.
