Baseball: Slow Start Stops Mount Union at Allegheny

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Mount Union's baseball team gave up nine runs in the first three innings in an 11-4 non-conference loss to Allegheny Wednesday in Meadville, Pa.

Jimmy Scott (Holland/Toledo St. John's), Nate Owen (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) and Conner Koski (Mayfield Hts./Mayfield) each had two hits as the Purple Raiders (25-8) had 10 hits at the plate.

A Scott sacrifice fly gave Mount Union a 1-0 lead in the top of the first but Allegheny (21-12) scored three in the bottom of the first and the Gators went up 9-1 with three runs in both the second and third innings.

Mount Union got a run in the fifth on a Billy Goodall (Canfield/South Range) ground out to make it 9-2.

Allegheny tacked on a run in the seventh that extended its lead to 10-2.

The Raiders put two runs on the board in the eighth as Scott scored on a wild pitch and Koski drove in a run with a double that closed the gap to 10-4.

Allegheny finished the scoring with a run in the ninth for the 11-4 final.

Mount Union plays its final Ohio Athletic Conference regular season matchup Saturday at 1 p.m. at Wilmington.
