Washington, Pa. - The Mount Union women's tennis team defeated Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) (2-3) 9-0 in their fall season opener Friday afternoon, sweeping both the doubles and singles matches.

The Purple Raiders (1-0) won in doubles with the pairings of junior Gretchen Groves (Louisville/Louisville) and senior Kayla Johnston (Ashtabula/Lakeside), sophomore Jordan Teaford (Canton/Glenoak) and junior Ashley Gran (Ashtabula/Lakeside), sophomore Sierra Beighey (Fombell, Pa./Riverside) and freshman Trisha Kohut (Warren/Lordstown) with scores of 8-1, 8-1, and 8-2 respectively.

Mount Union will host St. Vincent (Pa.) on Friday, September 22 at 3:30 pm at the Whitehill Tennis Courts.
