Football: #2 Mount Union Runs Past Baldwin Wallace

Box Score

ALLLIANCE, Ohio – A pair of Mount Union running backs went over 100 yards on the ground as the No. 2 ranked Purple Raiders beat Baldwin Wallace 55-7 in an Ohio Athletic Conference game Saturday at Mount Union Stadium.

Freshman Josh Petruccelli (Perry/Perry) made his first career start at running back for Mount Union (3-0, 2-0 OAC) and had 127 yards on 13 carries while junior Jawanza Evans-Morris (Coral Springs, Fla./Taravella) had 102 yards on the ground.

Sophomore quarterback D'Angelo Fulford (Miramar, Fla./Miramar) threw three touchdowns in the first half – two to senior Braeden Friss (Avon/Avon) -- as he finished 10-of-12 for 188 yards passing.

The Raider defense held Baldwin Wallace (1-2, 0-2 OAC) to 90 yards in the first half as linebacker Charlie Dear (Massillon/Massillon Washington) had 9.0 tackles and 1.5 sacks for the game to pace the unit.

After the opening BW drive stalled at midfield after a pair of Mount Union sacks, the Raiders took over at their own 35-yard-line and needed one play to get on the board as Fulford hit Ruth on a 65-yard catch and run for a score.

BW then turned it over on their second drive with a fumble which Mount Union turned into a touchdown eight plays later as Fulford tossed his second TD pass of the day this time to Braeden Friss (Avon/Avon) to extend it to 14-0.

Mount Union forced a BW punt on its next possession then the Raiders marched down the field and scored on a reverse as Evans-Morris handed it to Jared Ruth (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike), who ran it in from eight yards out but the conversion failed and it was 20-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The lone score of the second quarter came inside the final two minutes as the Raiders covered 85 yards in just over a minute and tossed his third TD pass of the game – second to Friss and it was 27-0 at the half.

Mount Union took the opening drive of the second half 56 yards on five plays and Evans-Morris ran it in from 11 yards out to increase the Raider lead to 34-0.

Later in the quarter, backup quarterback Robert Powell (West Bloomfield, Mich./West Bloomfield) threw a 27-yard pass that Justin Hill (Circleville/Jireh Prep, N.C.) took away from the defensive back for a touchdown and it was 41-0.

Two fourth quarter rushing touchdowns finished the scoring for the Raiders as Evans-Morris had a 55-yard scoring run and Gerrett Choat (Avon/Avon) ran one in from four yards out.

Baldwin Wallace scored a touchdown on an eight-yard fumble return with six minutes left as the first touchdown scored against Mount Union this season.

Mount Union stays home to host Ohio Athletic Conference rival Ohio Northern for homecoming next Saturday, Sept. 30 at 1:30 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium.
