Women's Soccer: Lanese's Golden Goal Lifts Purple Raiders Past John Carroll

ALLIANCE, Ohio--Mount Union's women's soccer team needed overtime to defeat John Carroll 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Tuesday evening at Mount Union Stadium. 

Senior Nicole Lanese (Macedonia /Nordonia) netted both goals for the Purple Raiders while freshman goalkeeper Michelle Kissane (Amherst/Marion L. Steele) recorded 12 saves in the match.

John Carroll broke the scoreless tie in the 53rd minute to take a 1-0 lead.

Lanese tallied her first goal in the 90th minute of regulation to tie the game and force overtime. The senior then scored the golden goal in the 98th minute off a ball from senior Brooke Schmidt (Massillon/Jackson).

Mount Union improves to 11-6 on the season while John Carroll falls to 7-11-1.

The Purple Raiders travel to face the number two seed Ohio Northern on Thursday, November 1 at 7 p.m. in the semifinals of the OAC Tournament.
