Football: #1 Mount Union Beats Wilmington, 63-7; Raiders Have Now Won 20 Straight

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The No. 1 ranked Mount Union football team extended the nation's longest winning streak to 20 games with a 63-7 win over Wilmington in an Ohio Athletic Conference game Saturday at Mount Union Stadium.

The Purple Raiders, now 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the OAC, churned out 576 yards of offense while the defense held Wilmington (1-4, 0-4 OAC) to 170 total yards.

In a little more than one half of action, Mount Union quarterback D'Angelo Fulford (Miramar, Fla.) went 12-of-14 for 198 yards with two scores, Josh Petruccelli (Perry) had 80 yards rushing with two touchdowns and Justin Hill (Circleville) had five catches for 96 yards.

On defense, Mitch O'Hara (Avon / Lakewood St. Edward) had 10 stops, Nick Brish (Milford, Mich.) recovered a fumble and Louis Berry (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shady Side Academy) blocked a field goal attempt that Jalen Griffin (Chicago, Ill. / Simeon) picked up at the 50-yard line and returned for a touchdown.

Mount Union took the opening kickoff and went 65 yards in six plays as Jawanza Evans-Morris (Coral Springs, Fla. / Taravella) ran it in from six yards out. On the Quakers first drive, a wild snap from center was recovered by Brish on the Wilmington nine-yard line and on the very next play Fulford found Luke Herrington (Wintersville / Steubenville) for a score as the Raiders took a 14-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Petruccelli had a pair of rushing touchdowns in between the Griffin touchdown return and Mount Union led 35-0 at halftime.

Fulford finished his game action with a 16-yard touchdown pass to Jared Ruth (Indianpolis, Ind. / Pike) on the Raiders first possession of the second half which made the score, 42-0.

Backup quarterback Ernie Burkes (New Castle, Pa. / Neshannock) ran for two scores and Matt Garcia (Phoenixville, Pa.) ran for another to finish the scoring for Mount Union.

Wilmington's score came on an 80-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown from Que Taylor.

Mount Union returns to the field next Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Capital in Columbus.
