ALLIANCE, Ohio - Mount Union's women's tennis team fell to Grove City (11-3) 6-3 Saturday afternoon at Peterson Fieldhouse in their home-opening spring match.
The Purple Raiders (6-3) got off to a good start, winning two of three doubles matches. Mount Union secured an 8-1 victory in Gretchen Groves (Louisville/Louisville) and Kayla Johnston (Ashtabula/Lakeside) and an 8-3 victory in Sierra Beighey (Fombell, Pa./Riverside) and Trisha Kohut (Warren/Lordstown).
In singles, the Raiders sent three singles matches into tie-breaking third sets, but Johnston was the only double-winner on the day, winning her match 7-6, 1-6, 10-4.
Mount Union will next go on the road to face Westminster (Pa.) on Monday, March 19 at 3:30 p.m. before beginning conference play on March 24 at Otterbein.
