Women's Tennis: Mount Union Wins Close One Against Catholic

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Mount Union women's tennis team improves to 4-1 as they defeated Catholic (D.C.) 5-4 Monday afternoon from Hilton Head Beach & Tennis Club.

The Purple Raiders won all three of the doubles matches and had singles victories in Gretchen Groves (Louisville/Louisville) and Kayla Johnston (Ashtabula/Lakeside). Sierra Beighey (Fombell, Pa./Riverside) and Gabrielle Wegener (Avon/Avon) both pushed their singles matches to a competitive third set.

As a pair, Groves and Johnston both recorded two wins on the day as they won their doubles match 8-0.

Mount Union will next play St. John Fisher (N.Y.) Tuesday, March 6 at 12:30 p.m. at the Chaplin Park Tennis Center.
