ALLIANCE, Ohio  -- The Mount Union's women's tennis team defeated non-conference opponent Westminster (Pa.) (1-2, 1-1 PAC) in their season opener, 7-2, Friday afternoon.

The Purple Raiders opened the match with a pair of wins in doubles in the teams of senior Gretchen Groves (Louisville/Louisville) and freshman MacKenzie Cavalier (Uniontown/Green) and junior Sierra Beighey (Fombell, Pa./Riverside) and sophomore Trisha Kohut (Warren/Lordstown).

In singles, Groves had a key victory against Westminster's Margo Mason, winning in a tie breaker with scores of 6-3, 3-6, and 10-5, pushing Mount Union to secure the win at 7-2.

The Raiders next travel to Mount Vernon Nazarene for a non-conference match on Friday, September 21 at 4:00 p.m.
