Baseball: Raiders Swept in OAC Opener

WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- Mount Union's baseball team fell in doubleheader action 6-2 and 13-7 to open Ohio Athletic Conference play Saturday at Fishbaugh Field.

The Purple Raiders (10-5, 0-2 OAC) combined for 17 hits as Bryant Kennedy (Chagrin Falls), Nick Satovich (New Kensington, Pa. / Plum), Joey Nave (Toronto / Edison) and Niklas Kuriger (Atco, N.J. / Winslow Township) all tallied two hits between both games to headline the Raider offense. 

Mount Union got on the board first to begin game one with a sacrifice fly from Billy Goodall (Canfield / South Range) that was deep enough to score Nave.

The Raiders doubled their lead in the top of the fifth with an RBI single from Kuriger.

Otterbein (9-7, 2-0 OAC) plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh to knot the game at two with a two RBI single.

The Cardinals hit a walk-off grand slam to take the 6-2 game one victory.

Phil Mary (Venetia, Pa. / Peters Township) struck out three batters over 6.0 innings of work while Eric Ostrowski (Youngstown / Jackson-Milton) took the loss out of the bullpen for the Raiders.

In game two, Otterbein got on the board first scoring two runs in the opening frame to take a quick 2-0 lead.

Mount Union got the long ball going in the following inning as Travis Wood (Hudson) hit a three-run homer. Later in the inning, Goodall hit a two-run homer to make it 5-2 before Otterbein retaliated to tie the game at 5.

The Raiders broke the tie in the top of the sixth with an RBI single from Nathan Duliba (Berea / Berea-Midpark) to make it 6-5.

Otterbein again tied the game at six in the fourth inning before scoring three runs in the sixth to control the game 9-6.

The Cardinals added four more runs over the seventh and eighth innings to make the score 13-6.

Kuriger tallied an RBI single in the top of the ninth before Otterbein went on to the 13-7 victory.

Nick Satovich was the losing pitcher in relief for the Raiders, who used four pitchers in the game. Sophomore Carson Davis (Louisville) went the first four innings striking out eight batters for Mount Union.

The Raiders are back on the diamond on Sunday, March 24 facing Hiram with a 2 p.m. start time in Hiram, Ohio.
