Baseball: Raiders Split at Wilmington; Goodall Becomes All-Time Leader in Career Hits

WILMINGTON, Ohio -- Mount Union's baseball team split in Ohio Athletic Conference competition losing the first game 5-4 before winning game two 7-6 Monday at Tewksbury-Delaney Field. 

The Purple Raiders shift to 18-12 and 5-9 in the OAC while Wilmington moves to 7-24 and 3-11 in the conference with the split. 

Billy Goodall (Canfield / South Range) registered five combined hits between both games as he became the new career leader in hits at Mount Union (208) to headline the offense.

The Raiders got on the board first in game one with an RBI single from Joey Nave (Toronto / Edison) to take a 1-0 lead in the second.

Wilmington pushed two runs across in the fifth to take make the score 2-1 before Brian Livolsi (McMurray, Pa. / Peters Township) hit an RBI single in the sixth to tie the game at two.

Mount Union regained the lead with a sacrifice fly from Bryant Kennedy (Chagrin Falls) in the seventh to shift the score to 3-2.

The Raiders later added a run in the eighth with an RBI single from Nathan Duliba (Berea / Berea-Midpark) to take a 4-2 lead. Wilmington scored a lone run in the bottom frame to make it 4-3.

The Quakers tied the game at 4 in the ninth with an RBI single before winning the game off an error in the tenth to go on to the 5-4 final.

Phil Mary (Venetia, Pa. / Peters Township) fanned 10 batters over 6.0 innings of work while Colin Skufca (Wooster) tossed 3.1 innings striking out two batters and taking the loss.

The Raiders broke the scoreless tie in game two with a solo home run from Livolsi in the fourth to take a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, a two-RBI double from Goodall made it 3-0.

Wilmington plated a single run in the fifth shrank the lead to 3-1.

Mount Union blew the game open with a four-run sixth inning sparked by a two-RBI double from Kennedy for a 7-1 margin.

Wilmington responded scoring three in the seventh and two in the ninth but the rally stopped there as Mount Union went on to the 7-6 win. 

Carson Davis (Louisville) struck out three batters over 7.0 innings of work in line for the win. 

The Raiders are back in action Thursday, April 25 for a single game against Wooster starting at 4 p.m. at 23rd Street Field.
