#4 Raiders Post Third Straight Shutout

Mount Union outgains Capital, 660-29

ALLIANCE, Ohio – No. 4 ranked Mount Union posted its third straight shutout with a 63-0 victory over Capital in an Ohio Athletic Conference game Saturday at Mount Union Stadium.

The Purple Raiders (6-0, 5-0 OAC) out-gained Capital, 660-29, and kept the Comets from getting a first down for the game. Linebacker Mason McMillen (Wadsworth) led the dominating defensive effort with seven tackles and a sack.  

Mount Union quarterback Braxton Plunk (Plant City, Fla.) completed 25-of-33 passes for 269 yards and four touchdowns. His top target was Wayne Ruby (Miami, Fla. / Flanagan), who caught 11 receptions for 109 yards and a score.

Running backs Josh Petruccelli (Perry) and DeAndre Parker (Crystal River, Fla.) each ran for a score and caught a touchdown pass. Petruccelli rushed for a game-high 100 yards.

Drew Engle had 23 yards rushing for Capital (1-5, 0-5 OAC).

Mount Union scored on five of its seven first half possessions as Plunk tossed three touchdown passes – 11 yards to Ruby, 22 yards to Derrick Harvey, Jr. (Akron / Buchtel) and six to Parker. Parker and Petruccelli had 13 and 49-yard touchdown runs respectively as the Raiders led 35-0 at the half.

Mount Union picked up where it left off on the first drive of the second half as Plunk threw his fourth touchdown pass of the game, this time a 19-yarder to Petruccelli, and the Raiders extended the lead to 42-0.

Quarterback Noah Beaudrie (Erie, Mich. / Erie-Mason) came off the bench to finish the game for Mount Union and threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Robby Kirchner (Massillon / Massillon Perry) then ran for a pair of scores from nine and 19 yards out for the 63-0 final.

Mount Union will go on the road next week playing at Heidelberg at 1:30 p.m. in Tiffin.
