ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Mount Union men's soccer team saw No. 13 nationally ranked Otterbein rally from two goals down to win 4-2 and hand the Purple Raiders their first loss of the season in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener Saturday night at Mount Union Stadium.
Mount Union is now 7-1-1 overall and 0-1-0 in the OAC while Otterbein is 7-0-2 overall and 1-0-0 in the OAC.
Mount Union scored first in the 25th minute when sophomore
Jamon McCort (Magonlia / Sandy Valley) got a goal off an assist from senior
Rylan Wikle (Olmsted Falls). Wikle added a goal of his off an assist from
Gavin Velazquez (Amherst / Steele) in the 38th minute to get the Raiders out to a 2-0 lead.
Otterbein got its first goal four minutes later from Nathan Neal and Mount Union held a 2-1 lead at the break. The Cardinals then scored three times in the second half during a span of 19:18 as Will Isaac notched a pair of unassisted goals in the 64th and 72nd minute before Joshua Conroy finished the scoring.
The four goals were the most allowed in a game by Mount Union in 106 games, since a 5-0 loss to Case Western Reserve in the 2015 season opener on Sept. 1.
The Raiders return to the pitch Wednesday, October 6 at 7 p.m. to take on John Carroll in an OAC game in University Heights, Ohio.
