ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's women's volleyball team picked up an Ohio Athletic Conference win against Wilmington, 3-0, Saturday at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
The Purple Raiders, now 15-4 overall and 2-1 in the OAC, defeated Wilmington, 3-18 overall and 0-3 in the OAC, by scores of 25-11, 25-17 and 25-17.
Senior
Maria Ellesin (Alliance / Marlington) and freshman
Heaven Bartell (Cleveland / St. Joseph Academy led the offense with 8 kills with a hitting percentage of .444 percent each.
Freshman
Alexis Meyer (Avon Lake) finished with seven kills and two blocks.
Junior libero
Alyssa Kasaris (North Royalton) finished with a team-high 14 digs while Bartell finished with 12.
Junior setters
Mollie Thomas (Massillon / Massillon Perry) and
Katie May (Brecksville / Independence) finished with 17 and 16 assists respectively.
Mount Union dominated the first set with a hitting percentage of .333 while Wilmington hit -.152. The Raiders had five service aces two from Bartell and one a piece from Thomas, Meyer and Kasaris. Mount Union jumped out to a 9-3 lead. Wilmington only got as close as five points to Mount Union twice.
Mount Union continued its hot hitting this time finishing with a .444 hitting percentage with just three attack errors. Â The Raiders got out to a 3-0 lead. Wilmington tied the game up twice, once at fives and another time at seven's, but Mount Union used a 10-4 run to finish the game off.
The final set had Mount Union out to a 5-2 lead. Wilmington tied the game up at 10 which then saw teams trade points for 10 straight sets to be tied at 15. The Raiders then saw Thomas serve the final 10 points with an ace to finish the game.
Mount Union takes to the road to play Muskingum in OAC play on Wednesday, October 13th at 7 p.m. in New Concord.
