ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's men basketball team, ranked No. 21 in the nation, outscored Adrian (Mich.) 57-30 in the second half to take a 97-60 victory Saturday afternoon in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
Sophomore
Christian Parker (Canton / GlenOak) came off the bench scoring a team-high 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting.
Seniors
Braedon Poole (McDonald) and
Ethan Stanislawski (Massillon / Massillon Jackson) both scored 15 points and senior
Darrell Newsom (Twinsburg) scored 12 points as the Purple Raiders move to 3-0 overall.
Adrian (1-3) got 12 points from Jesse Lawson Jr. in the defeat.
A Stanislawski jumper along with Poole scoring four points quickly got Mount Union out to a 6-4 lead early on. With the game tied at 18's the Raiders went on a 15-2 run in just three and a half minutes. Adrian responded with an 8-0 run but a basket from Newsom, Stanislawski and senior
Logan Hill (Massillon / Massillon Jackson) gave the Raiders a 40-30 lead at the half.
Adrian got within seven with the score being 46-39. Mount Union proceeded to go on a 24-6 run with Parker scoring 11 points in the run. The Raiders pushed their lead out to 36 after a 16-2 run with 4:22 left to finish the game 97-60.
Mount Union held a 43-17 advantage in bench points to propel the Raiders to the victory.
The Raiders stay at home for a top-25 matchup taking on No. 7 Trine tomorrow Sunday, Nov. 21 at 1 p.m. in Alliance, Ohio.
