#21 Raiders Hold Off #7 Trine in Top 25 Matchup

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The No. 21 nationally ranked Mount Union men's basketball team won a top 25 matchup against No. 7 nationally ranked Trine (Ind.) 72-62 Sunday afternoon at the MAAC.

The Purple Raiders (4-0) had three players score in double figures with senior Ethan Stanislawski (Massillon / Jackson) leading the way with a game-high 21 points while senior Logan Hill (Massillon / Jackson) and sophomore Christian Parker (Canton / Glenoak) each added 13.

Mount Union also held a 34-18 lead in rebounds as senior Braedon Poole (McDonald) tallied a career-high 15 rebounds.

The Thunder (4-1) took their first loss of the season and got 21 points from Nick Bowman.

A Stanislawski three tied the game at seven with 16:13 remaining in the first half, the Raiders then went on a 18-6 scoring run over the next 5:12 to take a 26-13 lead with just over nine minutes to go in the first half. The Thunder then answered with an 11-2 run to cut the Raiders lead to four with 3:18 in the first half. The Raiders took a 33-28 lead going into the half.

A three by freshman Michael Skeriotis (North Canton / Massillon Jackson) gave the Raiders a 45-35 lead with 15:48 to go in the second half. The Raiders got their lead up to 14 with 10:45 left in the game, but then the Thunder answered with a 14-3 run to cut the lead down to three with 6:11 remaining. This was the closest the Thunder got, as the Raiders outscored the Thunder 15-8 over the final six minutes to close the game.

The Raiders bench outscored the Thunder 22-9 in the game.

The Raiders next play Wooster in a non-conference game Wednesday, November 24 at 6 p.m. at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
