DELAWARE, Ohio – The Mount Union women's basketball team connected on 12 three's and grabbed a 77-49 victory over Mount Aloysius (Pa.) in the Ohio Wesleyan Bishop Classic Wednesday night at Branch Rickey Arena.
The Purple Raiders (4-4, 1-2 OAC) were led by freshman
Jenna Reppart (Leavittsburg / LaBrae) scoring 14 points with nine rebounds
Juniors
Emma Cannon (Dalton) and
Madison Hensley (Blacklick / Gahanna Lincoln) both scored 13 points for Mount Union.
Mount Aloysius (2-8) was led by Cameron Bates scoring 19 points.
Mount Aloysius held Mount Union scoreless for the first 3 minutes of the quarter until senior
Corenna Maynard (Chagrin Falls / Kenston) hit a three to take a 3-2 lead. Mount Union then used a 10-2 run to jump out to a 13-5 lead. Cannon scored the final seven points in the quarter for the Raiders to take a 20-12 lead.
The second quarter saw Mount Union extend the lead out to 26-14 on a
Sarah Meech (Smithville) three. Mount Union grabbed its largest lead of the first half with a 40-21 lead until Mount Aloysius closed the quarter on a 3-0 run.
Hensley connected on two three's to end the third quarter for the Raiders to take a 60-37 lead into the final quarter. Mount Union got its largest lead of 72-40 in the fourth quarter on a free throw from Reppart with 4:13 left to go.
Mount Union finished the night with 20 rebounds on the offensive end while Mount Aloysius only had seven.
Mount Union returns to the Branch Ricky Arena tomorrow Thursday, December 30th at 3:00 p.m. to take on the tournament host Ohio Wesleyan.
