Box Score 2 ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's baseball team swept a pair of games – 6-0 and 8-4 against John Carroll in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader Sunday at Rafeld-Rogers Field.
The Purple Raiders are now 16-6 overall and 14-6 in the OAC while John Carroll falls to 11-11-1 overall and 8-10-1 in the OAC.
In game one, Ryan Osman (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Moon) pitched a complete-game shutout as he scattered six hits and struck out six to move to 3-1 on the season. Walker Marlowe (Berlin Center / Western Reserve) drove in two runs as his first RBI gave the Raiders a 1-0 lead in the fourth then his second one started a five-run seventh that put Mount Union up 6-0.
Nate Duliba (Berea / Berea-Midpark), Zack Mazza (Flint, Mich. / Powers Catholic), Eric Schilling (Stow / Stow-Munroe Falls) and Joey Nave (Toronto / Edison) each drove in runs in that decisive seventh inning for Mount Union.
Mount Union got going in early in game two as Corey White (Louisville) had a two-run double in the bottom of the first to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead.
John Carroll tied the game with two runs in the fifth as Jack Bennett was hit by a pitch with bases loaded then Luke Galioto had a sacrifice fly RBI.
The Raiders came right back in the bottom of the fifth as Mazza hit a solo home run with one out to give Mount Union the lead back at 3-2. Mount Union would send seven more batters to the plate in the inning and score four more runs as Lou Cardona (Boardman) and Marlowe would each hit in a pair of runs to push the lead to 7-2.
Mount Union tacked on a run in the sixth as Schilling had an RBI single then John Carroll put two on the board in the seventh to make it 8-4.
Colin Skufca (Wooster) picked up the win throwing the final five innings in relief for Mount Union while Matthew Aukerman took the loss on the mound for the Blue Streaks.
Mount Union next has a four-game conference series with Capital next weekend. The Raiders play a doubleheader Saturday, April 24 in Columbus before hosting the Crusaders Sunday at 1 p.m. at Rafeld-Rogers Field.
