Box Score 2 ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's baseball team pounded out 26 hits over a span of 13 innings to sweep an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader from Capital with wins of 9-5 and 10-0 Saturday at Rafeld-Rogers Field.
The Purple Raiders are now 18-6 overall and 16-6 in the OAC while Capital is 4-20 and 3-18 in the OAC.
Capital no-hit the Raider lineup and led 4-0 in the top of the fourth inning of game one before Mount Union got started with a Nate Duliba (Berea / Berea-Midpark) double in the bottom of the fourth. Duliba would later score on a Trey Weaver (Franklin, Pa. / Franklin Area) single to get the Raiders on the board.
Capital would add a run on in the sixth to lead 5-1. Mount Union answered with two in the bottom of the frame as Duliba would start things off again, this time with a single, and then scored on a double from Eric Schilling (Stow / Stow-Munroe Falls). The Raiders would then load the bases and get a sacrifice fly RBI from Walker Marlowe (Berlin Center / Western Reserve) and make it 5-3.
The Raiders rally was capped off with a four-run seventh as Mount Union loaded the bases to start the inning and Schilling drove in two runs on a fielder's choice to tie the game. Lou Cardona (Boardman) then put Raiders in front, 7-5, with a two-run single.
Mount Union tacked on two more in the eighth on RBI hits from Duliba and Schilling as the pair finished going 3-for-4 with an RBI and 2-for-5 with four RBI respectively.
Billy Keller (Medina / Highland) came out of the pen and allowed only one Capital hit over the final four innings to pick up his first win of the year.
Capital got two hits and an RBI from Brendan Stinson and Connor Jones took the loss in relief.
Mount Union kept the hits coming in game two with 10 runs on 16 hits in a 10-0 win in seven innings.
The Raiders scored four in the bottom of the first, four more in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Duliba stayed hot with three hits, was 6-for-8 with six runs scored in the doubleheader, and was one of seven Mount Union hitters with multiple hits. Corey White (Louisville) drove in three runs on a pair of hits while Weaver and Chase Angotti (Monongahela, Pa. / Ringgold) also had two RBI on two hits each.
This was all more than enough for Mount Union starter Carson Davis (Louisville), who hurled his second complete game shutout of the season. He held Capital to three hits and struck out four while improving to 6-1 on the season.
Mount Union will again host Capital in a doubleheader Sunday at 1 p.m. at Rafeld-Rogers Field. Field conditions in Columbus forced the series to be moved to Alliance.
