Box Score 2 WILMINGTON, Ohio – Mount Union's baseball team swept Wilmington 15-12 and 6-3 in a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference games Sunday at Tewksbury-Delaney Field.
The Purple Raiders have now won 11 games in a row and stand at 24-6 overall and 22-6 in the OAC, while Wilmington falls to 7-23 overall and 6-20 in the conference.
In the opener, Mount Union led 7-0, then fell behind 10-7 before scoring eight in the final three innings and held off the Quakers in the ninth for a 15-12 victory.
The Raiders scored those 15 runs on 14 hits as Corey White (Louisville) drove in five runs on three hits, Zack Mazza (Flint, Mich. / Powers Catholic) had a double, triple, a home run and drove in two runs, while Thomas Gallant (Pataskala / Watkins Memorial) had a pinch-hit home run.
Jeremy Sassano (Fairview Park / Fairview) allowed just five hits over the final 5.1 innings to pick up the win in relief.
Owen Baumann had four hits for Wilmington.
Mount Union again jumped out to an early lead in the nightcap as the Raiders scored three in the second and two in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead and went on to a 6-3 win.
Dwayne Sumler (Indianapolis, Ind. / Warren Central) allowed just a run on one hit over the first six innings to pick up his second win of the season and Colin Skufca (Wooster) went the final 3.1 innings to pick up his second save.
At the plate, Lou Cardona (Boardman) went 4-for-4 with an RBI, while Walker Marlowe (Berlin Center / Western Reserve) and Chase Angotti (Monongahela, Pa. / Ringgold) each had a home run and drove in two runs.
Mount Union plays a four-game conference series next weekend with Baldwin Wallace with Saturday's games at 1 p.m. in Alliance and Sunday's twinbill in Berea.
