GREENSBORO, N.C. – Kennady Gibbins (Navarre / Fairless) earned All-American honors with a seventh place finish in the long jump to headline the day for the Mount Union women's track and field team Thursday at the NCAA Division III Championships at the Irwin Belk Track at North Carolina A&T University.
Gibbins came into the meet ranked 17th overall and finished 7th with a distance of 18-feet 5.25-inches for an All-American honor. This is the first All-American honor in the event since 2018.
Gibbins after day 1 sits fifth overall in the heptathlon as well with a total of 3,062 points just 209 points out of first.
Gibbins ran a personal record in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.09, had a high jump distance of 5-feet 5-inches, season best throw in the shot put with 36-feet 2.25-inches, and a season best 25.52 in the 200-meter dash.
The 4x100-meter relay team consisting of senior Cortni Arp (Copley), sophomore Kenadee Wayt (Wheeling, W.Va. / Wheeling Central Catholic) and freshmen Madison Miles (Padua / Padua Franciscan) and Lauren Roncone (North Canton / Hoover) qualified sixth overall to Saturday's finals with a season best 47.47.
Arp, Wayt, Miles combined with sophomore Micah Donley (Carrolton) to run 3:47.06 in the 4x400-meter relay to qualify fourth into the finals.
Brit McCauley (Ontairo) ran a 4:36.95 in the 1500-meter run and qualified to Saturday.
Juniors Michaelina Terranova (North Jackson / Jackson-Milton) finished 12th overall in the 400-meter hurdles and Bri Aveni(Geneva) finished 18th in the pole vault.
On Friday, the Purple Raiders will have Gibbins back to complete the heptathlon and high jump, Miles in the 400 meters and senior Sabrina Stocker (Madison) will run the 100 meter hurdles.
