GREENSBORO, N.C. – Mount Union's Kennady Gibbins (Navarre / Fairless) became Mount Union's first-ever All-American in the women's hepthathlon Friday at the NCAA Division III Championships at the Irwin Belk Track at North Carolina A&T University.
Gibbins finished in seventh place as she tallied 4,681 points which bested her previous school record total of 4,660 that she had posted to qualify for the meet.
She completed three events Friday, the long jump (fifth, 17-feet, 11-inches), the javelin (18th, 70-feet, 10-inches) and the 800 meters (10th, 2:36.52). This went along with four events Thursday, the 100 meter hurdles (ninth, 15.09), high jump (fifth, 5-foot, 5-inches), shot put (sixth, 36-feet, 2.25-inches) and 200 meters (second, 25.52).
Gibbins also competed in the high jump Friday and placed 12th with a mark of 5-feet, 4.5-inches and on Thursday she also earned All-American honors as she was seventh in the women's long jump with a mark of 18-feet, 5.25-inches.
Other Purple Raiders that competed on Friday included Sabrina Stocker (Madison), who finished 16th in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.73 and Madison Miles (Parma / Padua Franciscan) finished in 17th place with a time of 57.90 in the 400 meters.
On Saturday, Brit McCauley (Ontario) will run in the finals of the 1500 meters and Mount Union's 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams will run in the finals. Cortni Arp (Copley), Miles and Kenadee Wayt (Wheeling, W.Va. Central Catholic) run on both teams while Lauren Roncone (North Canton / Hoover) is the last leg of the 4x100 while Micah Donley (Carrollton) runs the anchor leg on the 4x400 relay.
