Box Score 2 ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's baseball team ran its win streak to 13 games with 5-2 and 5-1 victories over Baldwin Wallace in a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference games Saturday at Rafeld-Rogers Field.
The Purple Raiders, who have not lost since April 17, are now 26-6 overall and 24-6 in the OAC, while Baldwin Wallace 18-14-1 overall and 17-11-1 in the OAC.
Mount Union pitching kept a Baldwin Wallace lineup in check that came in averaging .335 as a team on the season to just three runs on 12 hits over 18 innings.
Carson Davis (Louisville) moved to 8-1 and tossed his fourth complete game of the season as he held the Yellow Jackets to a run on five hits and struck out five in the Raiders 5-1 game two victory.
Thomas Gallant (Pataskala / Watkins Memorial) started game one and allowed two runs on seven hits over 8.1 innings to pick up his sixth win of the season while Billy Keller (Medina / Highland) got the final two outs for his first save as Mount Union won the opener 5-2.
Zack Mazza (Flint, Mich. / Powers Catholic) led off game one for Mount Union with his conference-best 10th home run of the season.
It stayed 1-0 until the top of seventh inning, when BW's Chris Viamonte led off the inning being hit by a pitch, a sacrifice bunt moved him to second, a wild pitch put him on third and he scored on a pinch hit ground out from Bryce Holt to tie the game.
Mount Union answered in the bottom half of the inning as Eric Schilling (Stow / Stow-Munroe Falls) led off with a triple before Trey Weaver (Franklin, Pa. / Franklin Area) hit a two-run home run to give the Raiders back the lead at 3-1. Later in the inning, Walker Marlowe (Berlin Center / Western Reserve) singled and Chase Angotti (Monongahela, Pa. / Ringgold) walked then both came in on a Coleman Stauffer (Boardman) double and the lead was 5-1.
BW would get a run in the eighth with two outs as Alexis Castillo doubled and scored on an Drew Wilson single but the Jackets got no closer as the Raiders won 5-2.
In game two, Mount Union again jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Corey White (Louisville) had a two-out RBI single.
The Raiders added on four runs in the fourth as Mazza and Nate Duliba (Berea / Berea-Midpark) both had two-run singles that pushed the lead to 5-0.
Drew Wilson had a lead off home run from BW in the seventh to make it 5-1 but Davis retired the next seven batters in a row before Castillo had a single in the ninth but that was it for the Jackets as Mount Union won 5-1.
The two teams will finish the series Monday at 1 p.m. with two more games in Berea.
