Raiders Beat Defiance and No. 20 Transylvania Friday

Mount Union now 10-0 on the season

DELAWARE, Ohio – Mount Union Women's Volleyball team upset #20-ranked Transylvania (Ky.) and moved to 10-0 on the season Friday night at the Branch Rickey Arena at Ohio Wesleyan University.
 
In the first match Mount Union (10-0) beat Defiance (1-5) 25-16, 25-15 and 25-14 which saw the Purple Raiders have 39 kills on just six hitting errors in the game including a hitting percentage of .393 while Defiance hit just .028.

Leading Mount Union was sophomore Isabella Sprunger (North Royalton) with nine kills while senior Chase Filicko (Olmsted Falls / Gilmour Academy) and freshman Heaven Bartell (Cleveland / St. Joseph Academy) added eight kills each.
 
Junior setters Mollie Thomas (Massillon / Massillon Perry) and Katie May (Brecksville / Independence) had 19 and 15 assists while freshman Darby Leininger (Chardon / Beaumont) and junior libero Alyssa Kasaris (North Royalton) finished with 13 digs each.
 
The second game Mount Union upset #20-ranked Transylvania (Ky.) (6-5) 25-18, 25-21, 22-25 and 25-21.

Thomas needed 19 assists to get her 1,000th in the second game and finished with a total of 29 in the game. May finished with 23 assists for Mount Union as well.

Bartell and Leininger both had 15 kills to lead the Raiders while Sprunger finished with 10. 

Kasaris finished with a team-high 20 digs while Bartell dug out 17 balls. 
 
Mount Union will continue the Bishop Invitational tomorrow, Saturday, September 17, with matches against Ohio Wesleyan at noon and Anderson at 2 p.m. in Delaware, Ohio.
