Jim Gresko Memorial Fund Established

Running back played on 1993 National Championship Team

A memorial fund has been started by former Mount Union football coaches Larry Kehres and Don Montgomery in honor of Jim Gresko. A recognition of this memorial will be placed near the Dom and Karen Capers Football Coaching Center. Anyone that would like to contribute to this project in memory of Jim can send a check to the University of Mount Union, 1972 Clark Ave., Alliance, OH 44601 in care of Don Montgomery. At the bottom of the check, please put Gresko Memorial Fund. 

Former Mount Union All-American running back Jim Gresko passed away September 18, 2021.

Gresko played for the Purple Raiders from 1990-93 and as a senior in 1993, he totaled 1,517 yards on 246 carries with 16 rushing scores to earn All-American honors and help Mount Union secure its first NCAA Division III National Championship. In the national championship game against Rowan, Buck, as he was nicknamed by former coach Larry Kehres, had 24 rushes for 70 yards and a touchdown to go along with 10 catches for 69 receiving yards with a touchdown. That touchdown reception, a two-yard pass from Jim Ballard, gave the Raiders the lead for good in the fourth quarter.

He was born the son of Charles "Chuck" and Kathryn "Babe" (Regich) Gresko on January 24, 1972, in Youngstown, Ohio. He was a self-employed construction worker and a lifetime area resident.

Jimmy was a 1990 graduate of McDonald High School and played football for McDonald in his high school years.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his mother, Kathryn "Babe" Gresko of McDonald, Ohio; sister Patty A. Courtney of McDonald, Ohio; niece "Joey" Courtney of Indianapolis, Indiana; and nephew Dakotah Courtney of McDonald, Ohio.

Preceding him in death is his father, Charles "Chuck" Gresko, and a brother, Charles F. "Chuckie" Gresko.

Per Jimmy's wishes cremation will take place, and no services will be held.

Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery in Austintown, Ohio.
