TIFFIN, Ohio – The Mount Union women's basketball team defeated Heidleberg 64-48 to pick up its second straight victory in Ohio Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon at Seiberling Gymnasium.
Senior
Isi Palamone (Murrysville, Pa. / Franklin Regional), led the Purple Raiders (6-8, 3-5 OAC), tying her career-high in scoring with 22 points and grabbing a career-high 15 rebounds.
Mount Union also got a double-digit scoring day from junior
Emma Cannon (Dalton) with 12 points while sophomore
Sarah Meech (Smithville) pulled down nine rebounds.
Heidelberg (3-13, 2-7 OAC) was led by Hallie Rogers scoring eight points.
The first quarter saw six different ties and four lead changes with both teams getting a lead no larger than three.
Mount Union began the second quarter with a 10-2 run with Palamone scoring six points. The Raiders defense only allowed five more points in the second quarter to take a 29-22 lead into halftime.
Heidelberg got the first basket to start the second half, but Cannon and Palamone propelled Mount Union scoring 13 points between the two over a 4-minute 46-second stretch to push the lead out to 42-26.
Heidelberg got within 12 points in the fourth quarter but got no closer. The Raiders got their largest lead of the night on a three-ball from senior
Layni Ziegler (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Seton LaSalle) to go up by 20 with 2:50 remaining.
Mount Union heads to University Heights to take on #12 nationally ranked John Carroll on Wednesday January 26th at 7:00 p.m.
