ALLIANCE, Ohio – The No. 2 Mount Union football team remained undefeated on the season following a 63-3 win over Wilmington in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) action at home Saturday afternoon.
The Raiders (7-0, 6-0 OAC) led 42-0 at halftime and 56-0 after three quarters of play. Mount Union outgained Wilmington (3-4, 2-4 OAC) in total yards, 514-168 (8.2-2.5 average gain per play), including 300-59 on the ground.
"We had a really good week of practice….Overall, happy with the outcome," said third-year head coach
Geoff Dartt. "Had a lot of guys that played in the second half, so that was good to see."
Senior running back
DeAndre Parker (Crystal River, Fla./Crystal River) led the rushing attack with 124 yards on 12 carries (10.3 average) with three touchdowns. Parker has now run for over 100 yards in four-straight games. Parker's touchdowns went for 21, seven, and 46 yards.
Senior wide receiver
Wayne Ruby Jr. (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Charles W. Flanagan) led all receivers with five catches for 153 yards (30.6 average) and two touchdowns, extending his streak of 100-plus yards and 2-plus touchdowns in every game this season and surpassing the 1,000 receiving yards mark for the year. The two touchdowns bring Ruby's total to 18 on the year, tying for ninth in school history for most touchdown receptions in a season. Ruby's career totals are now 3,760 receiving yards (fourth in program history) and 47 touchdowns (tying Pierre Garcon's career total).
Senior quarterback
Braxton Plunk (Plant City, Fla./Plant City) went 12-of-18 for 196 yards and three touchdowns.
Senior
Josh Jones (Twinsburg, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary) returned an interception for a touchdown in the first quarter, the second pick-six of his career.
Also adding a touchdown for the Raiders were junior
Tyrell Sanders (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) with an 11-yard grab, sophomore quarterback
Noah Beaudrie (Monroe, Mich./Erie-Mason) with a four-yard scamper, and senior running back
Lance Mitchell (St. Clair Shores, Mich./South Lake) with a 21-yard run.
Leading the Raider defense was junior linebacker
Mason McMillen (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) with seven tackles. Senior linebacker
Kaleb Detellem (Batavia, Ohio/Batavia) and first-year defensive lineman
Brandon Bowden (Gainesville, Fla./Gainesville) each had a sack, while sophomore defensive lineman
Von Factor (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) and senior
Matt Lilja (Ashtabula, Ohio/Edgewood) each had a half sack.
Wilmington spoiled the shutout with a 31-yard field goal by Seth Best in the fourth quarter.
Mount Union will next travel to Westerville, OH to take on Otterbein on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 1:30 p.m.
Prior to the game, Mount Union had a moment of silence for Raider great Hall of Famer Lenny Reich
who passed away following a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, Oct. 17. Lenny was a longtime supporter of Mount Union Athletics as a Sports Information Director and Assistant Athletic Director.
