TIFFIN, Ohio – Mount Union's men's soccer team beat Heidelberg 5-0 in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.

The Purple Raiders (6-2-4, 1-1-1 OAC) got on the board first when junior Carter Hancock (Amherst / Marion L. Steele) found senior Xavier Pinaya (Monclova / Anthony Wayne) in the 11th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Mount Union would add to that lead in the 23rd minute when junior Jamon McCort (Magnolia / Sandy Valley) was able to find the back of the net. McCort would score his second goal of the game in the 31st minute to extend the lead to three goals, this time off an assist by senior Rylan Wikle (Olmsted Falls).

Then, in the 50th minute McCort would score his third goal of the game, to secure his second hat trick of the season. Mount Union would go on to add a fifth goal in the 75th minute when freshman Nyiles Spann (Stow / Stow-Munroe Falls) scored his first career goal.

The Raiders out shot the Student Princes (0-11-1, 0-3-0 OAC) 26-5, including a 15-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lucas Fields (West Chester / Lakota East) and senior Noah Ray (Toledo / St. John's Jesuit) combined for three saves in Mount Union's second consecutive shutout and their fourth in five games.

The Raiders are on the road again next when they travel to Marietta on Wednesday, October 12 at 7 p.m. to take on the Pioneers in an OAC matchup.
