TIFFIN, Ohio – Mount Union's men's soccer team beat Heidelberg 5-0 in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders (6-2-4, 1-1-1 OAC) got on the board first when junior
Carter Hancock (Amherst / Marion L. Steele) found senior
Xavier Pinaya (Monclova / Anthony Wayne) in the 11
th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Mount Union would add to that lead in the 23
rd minute when junior
Jamon McCort (Magnolia / Sandy Valley) was able to find the back of the net. McCort would score his second goal of the game in the 31
st minute to extend the lead to three goals, this time off an assist by senior
Rylan Wikle (Olmsted Falls).
Then, in the 50
th minute McCort would score his third goal of the game, to secure his second hat trick of the season. Mount Union would go on to add a fifth goal in the 75
th minute when freshman
Nyiles Spann (Stow / Stow-Munroe Falls) scored his first career goal.
The Raiders out shot the Student Princes (0-11-1, 0-3-0 OAC) 26-5, including a 15-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Lucas Fields (West Chester / Lakota East) and senior
Noah Ray (Toledo / St. John's Jesuit) combined for three saves in Mount Union's second consecutive shutout and their fourth in five games.
The Raiders are on the road again next when they travel to Marietta on Wednesday, October 12 at 7 p.m. to take on the Pioneers in an OAC matchup.
