ERIE, Pa. – The No. 7 nationally ranked Mount Union men's basketball team beat Juniata in a non-conference matchup 78-66 on Friday night.
The Purple Raiders (4-0) had three players score in double figures, with junior
Christian Parker (Canton / GlenOak) leading the way with a 27-point, 14-rebound double-double. Seniors Collen Gurley (Akron / Hoban) and Jeffery Mansfield (Wilmington) rounded out the Raiders in double figures, scoring 17 and 10 respectively.
The Eagles (1-2) were led by Chase Husted who scored a team-high 20 points.
The Eagles jumped out to an 11-3 lead just four minutes into the game, the Raiders would answer with a 14-4 run of their own over the next 4:09 to take a 17-15 with 11:50 remaining in the first half. Neither team would be able to gain an advantage, trading baskets back and forth over the final 11 minutes of the half, a lay in by Parker with two seconds left in the half would give Mount Union a 37-34 lead heading into the break.
The Raiders out scored Juniata 16-9 over the first nine and a half minutes of the second half to take their biggest lead of the game, leading 53-43 with 10:29 remaining in the game. The Eagles would answer with a 9-3 run of their own over the next 2:51 to cut the lead down to four with 6:42 left in the game. They wouldn't be able to get any closer than that, as Mount Union would go on to win 78-66.
The Raiders hit the road again next when they take on Wooster on Wednesday, November 23 at 6 p.m. in Wooster, Ohio.
