ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Mount Union women's basketball team was defeated 71-37 at home in Ohio Athletic Conference play to Ohio Northern Saturday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders (4-5 1-2 OAC) were led on offense by seniors
Gretchen Koken (Harmony, PA. / Seneca Valley) and
Emma Cannon (Dalton) who scored 11 and 10 respectively.
Ohio Northern (7-1, 3-0 OAC) was led by Brynn Serbin who scored 25 points and Kasey Knippen who scored 13.
Mount Union led 6-5 early on with Cannon connecting two threes. Ohio Northern took control of the game with an 8-0 run to push the lead out to 13-6. Mount Union got a bucket from senior
Madison Hensley (Blacklick / Gahanna Lincoln) to get within five but Ohio Northern finished with a 9-4 run to take a 22-12 lead after the first quarter.
Mount Union got within single digits again with a jumper from sophomore
Ali Hudik (Mentor / Lake Catholic) but Ohio Northern pushed the lead out to 14. Mount Union got within 11 on a jumper from Koken with 3:38 left in the quarter. A 12-7 run from Ohio Northern to finish the quarter off and take a 43-27 lead into the halftime break.
Mount Union held Ohio Northern to 28 points in the second half but only was able to score 10 points over the final two quarters.
Mount Union will take a break for final exams and resume play on Tuesday, December 20 at 2 p.m. against Ohio Wesleyan in Delaware, Ohio.
