ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Mount Union women's basketball team defeated Muskingum 84-71 in Ohio Athletic Conference play Wednesday night at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
The Purple Raiders (9-12, 6-9 OAC) were led by junior
Emma Cannon (Dalton) scoring 18 points.
Mount Union got a double-double from sophomore
Maddy Miles (Brunswick Hills / Padua Franciscan) who scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while senior
Isi Palamone (Murrysville, Pa. / Franklin Regional) finished the night with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Muskingum (9-13, 4-11 OAC) was led by Taylor DeMassimo scoring 16 points.
Muskingum took a 4-0 lead early on, but a 7-2 run got Mount Union out to a 7-6 lead. With the score tied at 10 the Raiders finished the final 3:48 of the first quarter on a 17-3 run which saw five different players' score.
Muskingum began the second quarter getting within nine on five separate occasions with the last one being a 38-29 score with 3:35 remaining in the half. Layups from Cannon, Miles and Palamone finished the quarter off for Mount Union taking a 44-29 lead into the half.
To start the third quarter Muskingum got within 11 points at the 7:20 mark but Mount Union responded with a 10-1 run and then an 8-3 run in the quarter to grab its largest lead of 21 on a three from junior
Madison Hensley (Blacklick / Gahanna Lincoln).
The Raiders held Muskingum to a double-digit deficit over the final period.
Mount Union caused 18 turnovers on the night scoring 29 points off of it while Muskingum caused 13 turnovers for just 11 points.
Mount Union finishes the regular season on the road on Saturday February 19 at 2:00 p.m. where they travel to Westerville, Ohio to take on Otterbein University.
