MARIETTA, Ohio – No. 6-seed Mount Union led by 16 in the middle of the third quarter as Marietta mounted a comeback to get within three but Mount Union held on with three free throws late in upsetting No. 3-seed Marietta 68-64 in the quarterfinals of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Tuesday night at Ban Johnson Arena.
The Purple Raiders (10-13) had three double-digit scorers with juniors
Madison Hensley (Blacklick / Gahanna Lincoln) scoring 14,
Emma Cannon (Dalton) picking up a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds and sophomore
Sarah Meech (Smithville) scoring 12 points.

Marietta (21-5) was led by Erin Hahn scoring 14 points.
Mount Union began the game with a Meech three. Both teams were tied at 10 until a 9-3 run over a 3:07 period pushed the Raiders lead out to 19-13. Marietta finished the quarter out on a 5-3 run.

In the second quarter Mount Union began on a 7-0 run finished with another Meech three-pointer. Marietta got within five points but the Raiders responded with a 13-5 run over the final 4:08 to take a 42-29 lead into the half.

For the Raiders the early in the third quarter they got their largest lead 49-33 on a jumper from Cannon. Mount Union kept its lead through the quarter taking a 58-44 lead into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter Marietta made a run at the Raiders with an 8-0 run to get within 65-62 with :29 seconds left. Mount Union connected on three free throws down the final :29 seconds to take the victory.

Mount Union out-rebound the Pioneers 50-34 as Mount Union avenged two regular season losses to the Pioneers.

The Raiders advance to the OAC semifinals Thursday night against winner of #2 Baldwin Wallace vs. #7 Muskingum with a place and time to be determined.
