ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's men's basketball team, ranked No. 11 in the nation picked up an Ohio Athletic conference win over Wilmington 84-65 on Saturday evening.
The Purple Raiders (18-2, 11-2 OAC) had five players score in double figures, with senior
Ethan Stanislawski (Massillon / Jackson) leading the way with 16 points. Sophomore
Christian Parker (Canton / GlenOak) secured another double-double, scoring 15 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.
Senior
Braedon Poole (McDonald) and junior
Andrew Keller (Painesville / Riverside) each added 11 points and junior
Chris Painter Jr. (Akron / St. Vincent-St. Mary) scored 10 to round out the Raiders in double figures.
The Quakers (4-16, 2-12 OAC) were led by Collmann Aaron who scored a team high 14 points.
Mount Union and Wilmington went back and forth over the first nine minutes of the game before a pair of Parker free throws started a 17-4 run over the next 6:40 to give the Raiders a 36-21 lead with 4:14 remaining in the half. Mount Union would then go on to outscore the Quakers 11-4 over the final 3:26 of the first half to take a 22-point, 47-25 lead into halftime.
Wilmington hit a three to open the second half and cut the Raiders lead down to 19, but never got closer than 18 the rest of the way as Mount Union would go on to win 84-65.
The Raiders are home again next as they will host nationally ranked, No. 3 Marietta on Wednesday, February 9 at 7 p.m. in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex in Alliance.
