ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union rallied in the second half and snapped a three-game skid with an 80-74 victory over Wilmington in an Ohio Athletic Conference game Saturday at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
Emma Cannon scored 17 of her game-high 18 points in the second half and
Madison Hensley (Blacklick / Gahanna Lincoln) had 12 points to lead Mount Union (7-11, 4-8 OAC)
Isi Palamone (Murrysville, Pa. / Franklin Regional) was also in double figures with 14 points and was one of three seniors honored prior to the game along with
Layni Ziegler (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Seton LaSalle) and
Corenna Maynard (Chargin Falls / Kenston).
Kennedy Lewis had 17 points and led four in double figures for Wilmington (6-14, 2-10 OAC).
There were three ties in the first seven minutes of action before a Maynard three-pointer with 2:43 left in the first quarter gave Mount Union its first lead at 11-8. Wilmington scored five of the last eight of the quarter, but Mount Union led 14-13.
Mount Union opened the second quarter on a 10-4 run that was capped by an
Ali Hudik (Mentor / Lake Catholic) three-pointer to give the Raiders a 24-17 lead. Wilmington rallied and went on a 20-0 run over the final 6:31 of the half and led 38-32 at the break.
The Raiders came back in the third quarter with a 12-6 surge and a Hensley three gave Mount Union back the lead 44-42 with 6:49 left in the period. Mount Union stretched the lead out to 55-50 before a pair of Quaker free throws made it 55-52 heading into the final period.
Mount Union put the game away with back-to-back three-pointers from Cannon and
Kelsie Glass (Green) start the final quarter to take the lead out to nine and never trailed the rest of the way.
The Raiders next play at Marietta in an OAC game Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 7 pm in Marietta, Ohio.
