Molly McGinnis Breaks Career Saves Record In Win Over Marietta

MARIETTA, Ohio – Mount Union's women's lacrosse team picked up a 16-5 victory over Marietta in Ohio Athletic Conference play Thursday night in Marietta as graduate student Molly McGinnis (Brunswick) broke the school record for saves in a career with 253.
 
The Purple Raiders (5-2, 2-0 OAC) were led on offense by junior Julia Bates (East Lyme, Conn. / East Lyme) and senior Sydney Bumbarger (Newbury Park, Calif.) who each scored five goals.
 
Eden Kesler (Chagrin Falls / Kenston) and Sam Karr (Newark, Del. / Newark Charter) each scored three goals while freshman Mackenzie Kolstad (Victor, N.Y. / Victor Senior) and sophomore Katie Clark (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) each had one goal.
 
McGinnis broke the record that was held by Mimi Curtis since 2019 with a save with 1:20 remaining in the first quarter.
 
Freshman Abby Lindkvist (Greenlawn, N.Y. / Harborfields) came in for the final 15 making one save for the Raiders.
 
Marietta (6-3, 0-2 OAC) was paced by Mackenzie Dyott's two goals.
 
Mount Union held Marietta scoreless in the first quarter while getting the first two goals from Bates and then a goal a piece from Karr, Kesler and Bumbarger.
 
The Raiders outscored Marietta 6-2 in the second period with two goals from Kesler and a goal from Clark, Bates, Bumbarger and Kolstad to push the lead out to 11-2.
 
Mount Union got two goals from Bumbarger and Karr and a goal from Bates in the second half to outscore Marietta 5-3.
 
Mount Union will head to Michigan this weekend taking on Hope (Mich.) on Saturday, April 2 at 1 p.m. and Kalamazoo (Mich.) on Sunday, April 3 at 11 a.m.
