Gebhart's Overtime Goal Gives The Raiders A Home Victory

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's men's lacrosse team defeated Westminster (Pa.) 12-11 in overtime at Mount Union Stadium Saturday afternoon.
 
Logan Gebhart (McDonald, Pa. / Canon-McMillian) had two goals and two assists including the game winning goal to lead the Purple Raiders, who are now 2-1 overall on the season.
 
Leading Mount Union in goals was Alek Kungle (Hartville / Lake) with three while Alex Ellison (Uniontown / Lake) and Grant Dunmire (Allison Park, Pa. / Hampton) scored two goals each.
 
Payton Waight led Westminster (Pa.) (1-1) with five goals.
 
Westminster began the game on a 3-1 run as Eli Ciotti (Canonsburg, Pa. / Linsly) scored a goal at the end of the first quarter to make it 3-2.
 
The Raiders held Westminster to no goals in the second quarter while scoring four. Ellison, Kungle, Gebhart and Connor O'Neil scored goals for Mount Union.
 
Mount Union had an 8-5 lead as Kungle scored two goals in the period. With 30 seconds remaining in the third quarter but Westminster responded with three goals in 24 seconds to take a tie into the fourth quarter.
 
Westminster continued that momentum with the first two goals in the fourth quarter. Mount Union Dunmire responded with a goal to cut the deficit in half as the Raiders were down 10-9. A Westminster goal and then Ellison goal for Mount Union kept it a one goal difference.
 
Mount Union then tied the game up with 2:01 remaining on a goal from Dunmire with the assist to Gebhart. Both teams were scoreless the final 2:01 sending the game into overtime where Gebhart scored the game winner just 1:53 into the overtime.
 
Mount Union travels to Meadville, Pa Wednesday, March 9 at 7 p.m. taking on Allegheny (Pa.).
