ALLIANCE, Ohio– Mount Union's women's lacrosse team dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup to Capital 17-13 Saturday afternoon at Mount Union Stadium.
The Purple Raiders (9-3, 4-1 OAC) were led by
Sydney Bumbarger (Newbury Park, Calif.) who had five goals.
Madi Karr (Newark, Del. / Newark Charter) had a team-high six points with three goals and three assists.
Katie Clark (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) had two goals while
Ashley Carr (Livonia, N.Y. / Livonia),
Sam Karr (Newark, Del. / Newark Charter) and
Julia Bates (East Lyme, Conn.) each scored one goal.
Capital (15-0, 6-0 OAC) was led by Grace Osborn who scored seven goals.
Mount Union jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a goal from Carr and Clark. Capital response with two goals of its own to tie the game. The Raiders once again in the first quarter scored two goals from Bumbarger. Capital took the lead 5-4 after a 3-0 run. Bumbarger grabbed her third goal of the quarter to tie the game at five after one quarter of play.
Capital scored the first five goals of the second quarter as Mount Union responded with a goal from M. Karr. Capital then scored with four seconds remaining, but M. Karr scored the quickest goal in Mount Union history just scoring in three seconds before the halftime buzzer going into the halftime down 11-7.
M. Karr came out with a goal to begin the third period. Capital went on a 3-1 run with a goal from Clark in the run for Mount Union. The Raiders ended the third period with two goals one from Bates and S. Karr.
The fourth period began with a Capital goal to go up 15-11. Mount Union got within two as Bumbarger got two more goals, but Capital closed the game out with two goals of its own to take a 17-13 victory.
The Raiders next play Wednesday, April 20 at 7 p.m. in Alliance against Muskingum.
