Raiders Fall On Senior Day

ALLIANCE, Ohio– Mount Union's women's lacrosse team dropped the regular season Ohio Athletic Conference finale to John Carroll 14-10 Wednesday night at Mount Union Stadium.
 
Mount Union honored its two graduating seniors in Delaney Allan (Olmsted Falls) and Haley Cruze (Lexington, Va. / Rockbridge) before the game started.
 
The Purple Raiders (11-4, 6-2 OAC) were led by Julia Bates (East Lyme, Conn.) and Eden Kesler (Chagrin Falls / Kenston) who each scored three goals.
 
Madi Karr (Newark, Del. / Newark Charter) finished with two goals while Katie Clark (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) and Emily Nannarone (Stow / Stow-Munroe Falls) scored a goal each.
 
John Carroll (9-5, 7-1 OAC) was led by Shannon Burdick and Olivia Gerlach scoring four goals each.
 
John Carroll got the first two goals of the game with Karr closing the gap to 2-1. John Carroll finished the first quarter with two more goals.
 
The second quarter started out the same as John Carroll scored two goals. Nannarone scored her lone goal of the game, but John Carroll tacked on one more before the half to lead 7-2.
 
Bates scored two goals to get the third quarter started with a John Carroll goal in between them. John Carroll opened the lead out to 10-4 before Kesler responded for the Raiders to trail 10-5. A goal from John Carroll and then Bates closed the third period out as Mount Union trailed 11-6.
 
The fourth quarter began with two more goals from John Carroll to get its largest lead of 13-6. Mount Union responded with a goal each from Karr and Kesler to close the gap to just five. John Carroll however scored one more goal with 3:20 left to play. The Raiders tried to mount a comeback with a goal from Kesler and Clark but fell 14-10.
 
Mount Union will be the No. 3-seed in the OAC Tournament starting Saturday, April 30th as they host No. 6-seed Ohio Northern at 1 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium.
