KALAMAZOO, Michigan – Mount Union's women's lacrosse team picked up a 17-7 victory over Kalamazoo (Mich.) Saturday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders (7-2, 2-0 OAC) were led on offense by
Julia Bates (East Lyme, Conn. / East Lyme) scoring four goals.
Madi Karr (Newark, Del. / Newark Charter) scored three goals while
Sydney Bumbarger (Newbury Park, Calif.),
Mackenzie Kolstad (Victor, N.Y. / Victor Senior) and
Katie Clark (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) each had two goals.
Molly McGinnis (Brunswick) made eight saves for the Raiders playing all 60 minutes.
Kalamazoo (6-4) was paced by Hannah Heeren's four goals.
Mount Union jumped out to a 3-0 lead with two goals from Bates and a goal from Bumbarger. Kalamazoo closed the gap as they went on a 3-1 run with a goal from Kolstad keeping Mount Union ahead by 1.
The Raiders finished off the first quarter with a goal from M. Karr, Bumbarger and
Ashley Carr (Livonia, N.Y. / Livonia) to lead 7-3.
Mount Union outscored Kalamazoo 4-1 in the second period with two goals from M. Karr and a goal from
Sam Karr (Newark, Del. / Newark Charter) and Clark to take a 11-4 lead into halftime.
The Raiders outscored Kalamazoo 6-3 in the second half with two goals from Bates and a goal each from Clark, Kolstad
Eden Kesler (Chagrin Falls / Kenston), and
Emily Nannarone (Stow / Stow Munroe-Falls).
Mount Union will return to conference play taking on Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday, April 6 at 7 p.m. at home.
