ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's men's soccer team picked up a season opening win 3-1 against Washington and Jefferson on Thursday night.
The Raiders struck first in the 21
st minute when junior
Carter Hancock (Amherst / Marion L. Steele) found sophomore
Zak Peterjohn (North Royalton) for Peterjohn's first career goal. The Presidents would come back to tie the game in the 27
th minute when McKinley Joseph found the back of the net to tie the game at one.
Senior
Bennett Caruso (Cincinatti / Summit Country Day) netted his first career goal in the 36
th minute to help Mount Union reclaim the lead. The Raiders would extend their lead in the 90
th minute when senior
Rylan Wikle (Olmsted Falls) found the back of the net off an assist from senior
Gavin Velazquez (Amherst / Marion L. Steele), giving Mount Union a 3-1 victory.
Mount Union out shot Washington and Jefferson 15-2 on the night and had a 12-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Raiders hit the road next as they travel to Rochester, N.Y. on Sunday, September 4
th for a 4 p.m. matchup against Rochester.
