Raiders Perfect On the Weekend; Take Two Wins On Saturday

ROCHESTER, N.Y.—The Mount Union women's volleyball team completed its weekend trip to Rochester with a win over St. John Fisher and SUNY Cortland Saturday afternoon.
 
In the first game of the day Mount Union (9-3) took down St. John Fisher (4-4) in four sets 25-19, 25-18, 25-27 and 25-20.
 
Leading the Purple Raiders was senior Maria Ellesin (Alliance / Marlington) with 12 kills as sophomore Darby Leininger (Chardon / Beaumont) and Catherine Klopp (Sycamore / Mohawk) finished with 11 and nine kills.
 
Senior setters Mollie Thomas (Massillon / Massillon Perry) and Katie May (Brecksville / Independence) both had double digits with 26 and 12 assists respectively.
 
Mount Union finished the game with 12 total blocks as Klopp had two solo and five assisted, Leininger had six assisted and sophomore Alexis Meyer (Avon Lake) finished with a solo and four block assists.
 
Senior libero Alyssa Kasaris (North Royalton) had a game-high 28 digs with sophomores Heaven Bartell (Cleveland / St. Joseph Academy) and Katelyn Lesko (Mineral Ridge) finished with 11 and nine digs.
 
In the second game Mount Union defeated SUNY Cortland (7-2) 25-21, 21-25, 25-9 and 25-9.
 
Bartell led the Raiders in hitting with 10 kills while Leininger and Meyer finished with eight and seven.
 
Mount Union used its serving and blocking to its advantage having 12 aces and 11 blocks. Thomas led the charge in aces with five as Lesko finished with four. On the net Klopp had three solo and three assisted, Meyer had four assisted and Leininger with senior Isabella Sprunger (North Royalton) finished with three assisted.
 
Thomas finished with 18 assists while May had 12 total assists. Kasaris finished the day with a team-high 11 digs while Bartell picked up 10 digs.
 
Mount Union will stay on the road this week as they head to Hiram College at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28th.
